Summer in Ohio

Summer season's at its height,
With sun that's warm and bugs that bite!
When it's too hot to play outside,
I sneak back in the house and hide
In my quilt room ~ that's the space
That takes me to my Happy Place!

July 25, 2017
Hi Friends!
Depending on what week it is, we can claim either of those stanzas from the ditty above!  Yup, been HOT!!  Yup, been WET!! Sounds pretty much like 'summertime in Ohio' to me!  ....and it's been a good one!
We've been really busy in the shop this summer most days. That's great!!  Plus, we're busy constantly cutting kits, writing patterns, completing projects for customers, and our favorite....hosting our TWO FREE Sit 'n Sews  every week!!
I apologize for the long delay since my last newsletter. I've had computer and internet issues and every time I sit to work on the newsletter I get sew frustrated that I just give it up.  Hopefully I'll get through this without any challenges.....sew far, sew good!!
Since I last wrote we've gotten loads of new (and, of course, GEORGEOUS!!) fabrics, as well as inspiring books and fast, fun patterns! The Ohio State AND Ohio University licensed prints came it last week. I believe the OU fabric may be the last on the planet as they are no longer printing it. (The GOOD news is, we are now cutting more of the OU ~ 2016 OHIO Row x Row kits ~~ Get 'em while we got 'em!!)
Each kit, to include borders & binding, is $29.95
We have some great goodies in stock now for the Featherweight Fanatic in your life!!  At Creations SewClever we now stock these wonderful 'gas pedal pushers' for our Featherweight Friends and anyone else who has an antique machine with this style foot pedal. Especially great for those with arthritis or neuropathy. Holes are drilled to hold foot pedal pads, nonslip grips on bottom, fold top across foot pedal and use your entire foot to depress your 'gas pedal'. Made from beautifully stained and finished hardwood. ($25.)
While we're on a Featherweight roll.....how about this AWESOME fabric?!! (The quarter is there to show scale). Fabric is $12/yd.
And, whether you are a Featherweight Fanatic or not....these elegant, hand-turned seam ripper/stilettos are a decadent treat for you, or for a special sewing friend! The wood handles are turned from Olive wood from the Holy Land, the others are just spectacularly marbled, brilliant colors. There is a wonderful weight to these, and the points are sew sharp you have to be careful!! They are priced at $29.95 and Worth Every Penny!!  We have a web-special for them currently.....order a seam ripper/stiletto AND a gas pedal pusher and shipping is FREE.
Here is a compilation of upcoming classes and events for you to consider.  I hope you can join us!!
Sew many of our customers have one or more of these little darlings ~
Singer  Featherweight 221 machines from the 1930's to the 1960's.
The next meeting for our fun little gang is  Saturday, Aug 12 from 10-5
. We'll be working on the Creations SewClever 2017 Row X Row kit, which is loosely themed for our Featherweight Club. I have no objection (as always!!) to you working on anything else you may prefer.....even one of the 2016 kits pictured earlier in the newsletter. While we're on the topic of Featherweights.... I have one for sale that is in MINT condition. It was born June 10, 1955, is immaculate with lots of attachments, and even the box is nearly perfect!  It will have a spa-day this week and be at the shop on Friday. I'm asking $495 for this machine because of it's unbelievable condition!
  Saturday, August 12                                   10-5                                            $5
 2)  OSU CHAMPIONS
Kits in any size are available for order, and the large lap is alsew in stock in the shop
for $105.95.  Each kit is complete and cut and ready-to-sew. It contains Thangles
needed to complete half-square triangle blocks, borders, binding, and complimentary
label. If you would like me to schedule another class for this quilt, please let me know!
Due to popular request, we're now kitting Ohio University kits. These quilts are fun and fast to do. Alsew on the kitting table are kits for the University of Kentucky. We've been cutting both of these kits all week, and they are ready to go!
Ohio University Large Lap kit ~ $112.95  /  UK Large Lap kit ~ $112.95
4) QUILTING FOR THE CLUELESS!! This Saturday, July 29 from 10-1 I'm teaching this fun introductory class. Learn the basic properties of fabric, why we do what we do, how to use rotary tools, do strip piecing, keep a 1/4" seam allowance, and anything else I can think of to teach you in those couple hours. Bring your machine, or use ours. We'll make a basic 9-patch, and if everyone's fast enough maybe we can get a tablerunner made!

Beginning Tuesday, May 2, Edlyn began hosting Embroidery Club the first Tuesday evening every  month. Through this summer and early fall, hours will be 4-8pm since it stays light well beyond that time.  As the seasons change you can discuss among yourselves whether you want to adjust the day/time.  Each meeting is $10 and everyone will work on a project. Part of the beauty of 'club'-type events is the networking and sharing that goes on. Everyone shares skills and ideas and creativity ramps up exponentially.  You will receive 15% off shopping during club hours. (You may bring ANY embroidery machine, but you must know how to use it....this is not a class, it's a fun gathering and sharing of techniques and information). The Embroidery Club members chose to work on either the Wildflowers quilt, or the embroidered Angels quilt over the next several months. This is a 'Club' and not a class, sew you are welcome to work on anything you choose and still enjoy the fellowship of other embroidery machine enthusiasts!
Because of summer vacations, dates occasionally get shifted a bit. The August JEF Club will be Tuesday, August 8 from 4-8pm. September will be back to the agreed-upon date ~ Sept 5 from 4-8pm.

  •     A couple of customers have some machines for sale.....from very old to relatively new. You can see them at our shop, if you'd like, but your dealings will be with the machine owners.
This is a very old, very heavy Singer from 1929. The machine is beautiful with some wear on the decals, and it will need new wiring if it is to be used. The wooden case is lovely and worth at least as much as the machine! Customer is asking $50
Another customer has 4 machines for sale. I'm posting pictures, but to get more details email me privately, or stop by the shop. I've not got the price sheet at home with me, sew will post those in the next email or on fb.
One of our customer/friends lost her adult son to a drug overdose 3 months ago. To help her find a ray of hope in her deep loss, she is hosting a Pampered Chef on-line party with all proceeds going to a scholarship to a MADE (drug free) student at Pickaway-Ross Vocational School. If you need some Pampered Chef goodies, are buying for a shower or wedding, or just want to help a good cause, visit www.pamperedchef.com In the upper right click 'find a show' and type in 'Beth Tackett' in the drop-down box. I thought I already had every single thing Pampered Chef makes, but nope....there are some new ones! Thank you for your help!
