(Oh, and FREE!).  There are some classes coming up to entice you out of the house.  We've lots of summer specials and of course not one, but THREE Row X Row options to tempt you! Alsew, we had such fun, and such a great turnout for our June 26 Mystery that we are offering One More Mystery Event this summer!! Kit cutting has begun, sew please let us know if you can join us sew we can help choose fabrics you'll LOVE!!  The date is Sunday, August 14 from 11-7. Hi Friends!
I. GREETING
What a week it's been for me!  We had a delightful (if quite HOT) Mystery Event last Sunday and we rocked the house!!  Lots of friends, loads of food, tons of fun! These events are a lot of work for the staff, but that allows us to be pretty organized at the kickoff of Mystery Day, and things usually run pretty well.  I spent all day Saturday cooking for the event, and a few of the other shop staff contributed as well.  I promised to share all the yummy recipes in this week's email.  I apologize for this being delayed, but I've been dealing with a dental emergency which knocked me on my toukas and took me out of commission for a few days.  I'm at least UP now, if not 'running'!  I plan to be at the always-fun Sit 'n Sew tomorrow and then catch up with myself over the 4th of July holiday.
Here are a couple pictures of the fun!!

It's still a mystery!                                 Plenty of delicious sustenance!

                                          A couple Beautiful Solutions!!

If you missed this week's event, you have another chance for a beautiful solution on Sunday, August 14 from 11 - 7!

V. RECIPES & CLOSING
It's Memorial Weekend!  How about some picnic fare??

GREEN BEAN AND TOMATO SALAD  (serves 8-10)
2 pounds green and yellow string beans
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
4 green onions, minced to include green tops
2 tablespoons chopped dill weed
1 pint cherry tomatoes, halved
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the beans until just tender, about 4 minutes. Drain the beans and spread them on a large baking sheet to cool. Pat dry.  In a small bowl, whisk the olive oil with the onions and dill weed, and season with salt and pepper. Place the beans and tomatoes in a large bowl, add the dressing and toss well. Transfer to a platter and serve.

CHOCOLATE WAFER ROLL This is a huge favorite from my childhood! (serves 6)
1 box Nabisco Chocolate Wafers (found in the freezer aisle with the ice cream cones, ice cream toppings, etc)
1 cup heavy cream
3T sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Pour cream, sugar and vanilla in chilled bowl and mix with electric mixer on low/medium until it reaches the right consistency.  Using all of the wafers and a long platter, 'ice' the wafers with the whipped cream, between each wafer to form a long 'log', and then 'ice' the entire log with the remaining whipped cream.  Top with chocolate sprinkles if desired.  Chill for several hours or overnight before serving.  Slice the roll on the diagonal to serve.

WATERMELON CUCUMBER SALAD (serves 6)

4 c. diced watermelon

2 English cucumbers

2 tbsp. olive oil

2 tbsp. red wine vinegar

1/2 tsp. sea salt

¼ c. crumbled feta

¼ c. mint leaves

In large salad bowl combine all ingredients except feta and mint.  Toss and chill until ready to serve.  Garnish with feta cheese and mint leaves.

"The brave die never, though they sleep in dust:
Their courage nerves a thousand living men."
                                                                 ~Minot J. Savage

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
~Lee Greenwood
