April 26, 2016: From Paducah to Pizza Crust

Paducah was amazing, what a week of friends and fun!
We drove there in Big Bertha and unloaded on the run.
We had a great big 'grownup' booth with lots of extra space,
Sew we could take more goodies and each product had its place.
We saw a lot of quilting friends we know from all our shows,
And made a couple new ones, 'cause you know that's how it goes....
Because hotels are scarce there we shared someone's private home,
Four other quilters joined us which meant we were not alone.
Our group of roommies had a blast, we're friends from way-back-when,
We planned and plotted the next time we all hang out again!

April 26, 2016
Hi Friends!
I. GREETING
Two weekends ago was our much-loved April Quilt Away.  We had such a great time! Loads of returning quilting peeps, and many newbies as well.  This lovely group of folks is sew welcoming to and encouraging of new attendees, that I never, ever worry about anyone feeling left out.  It's a fun and rejuvenating weekend all around.....
Art Quilter Friend, Pam Pandolfi giving a fun trunk show of her work!
Then, at 7am the next moring I started up Bertha and headed to Paducah, picking up my helper-friends along the way.  It was the first time Sharon and Sue worked the Paducah show, and all the prep-talks I gave never really prepared them.....lmao!!  We worked our quilty-fingers to the bone!!  AND, we had fun doing it!  We sold over 1,700 Creative Grids rulers in 3 1/2 days, plus sold hundreds and hundreds of books, patterns and notions to go with those awesome rulers.  Several friends from the Dayton area came to enjoy the show, and they were able to stay in the home next door to ours.  Thank goodness they happened to come by our booth at the Perfect Time two days in a row.....we were sew slammed that the 3 of us, and the 3 of them ALL waited on customers.  Thursday evening after the show closed I taught a class until 9pm, and I was blessed to have 5 wenches helping in my very full class!!  Can I tell you how happy those students were????  And I was even MORE grateful!!  In quilting, it really does Take a Village (of friends!!)
Where to begin??                                           Ready to rumble!!
Not much left!              Thank you Paducah customers!        It's good to be home!

V. RECIPES & CLOSING
I've had lots of request for these couple recipes....enjoy!

HOMEMADE RICOTTA CHEESE
1 gal whole milk
1 tsp salt
Heat over medium heat, stirring periodically until it reaches 180* - 185*.  Turn off heat.  Add 1/3 cup distilled white vinegar, stir and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Pour into large collander lined with a double layer of cheese cloth.  Drain for 20-60 minutes.
Stop draining when liquid runs milky.  Store in airtight container in refrigerator up to 7 days.
WHOLE WHEAT PIZZA CRUST
(I make 3 large thin crusts from this.  Store extra in refrigerator wrapped tightly in                                                                                                                              plastic wrap.)
1 1/4 C all purpose flour
1 pkg (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
1/2 tsp salt
1 C warm water (120*-130*)
2T olive oil
1 1/4 - 1 3/4 C whole wheat flour
In large mixing bowl combine all purpose flour, yeast and salt.  Add water and oil. Beat on low to mix, then on high for 3 minutes. Continue adding whole wheat flour as you mix.  Turn out onto floured board and knead for 5 minutes trying to incorporate all of the whole wheat flour.  Cover and let rest in warm place for 30 minutes (I let it rest for a couple hours and it was still great)
To bake, separate 1/3 of dough and roll out to desired consistency.  Place on cornmeal-dusted baking stone and bake 10 minutes at 475*.  Add toppings of your choice (I brushed with olive oil, used the ricotta cheese, and homemade pesto, the topped with sauteed veggies and cheese. Yummm....
BOURBON MEATBALLS
12oz jar chili sauce
1 C ketchup
1 small onion, chopped
1 T chopped garlic
1/2 C bourbon or whiskey
1 T lemon juice
1 1/2 C brown sugar
1 tsp dry mustard
1 T Worcestershire sauce
48 oz prepared meatballs
Place all but meatballs in slow cooker on high and mix until sugar melts. Add meatballs and carefully mix well.  Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours.
