March 21, 2019
Hi Friends!
Guess What??! It's Really Here!! Spring!! Did you look at the calendar??  We Made It! Yay!!!!  SPRING!!
(Okay, sew somebody had to say it. After all, it's been on Everyone's Mind! Sew happy to be the one to put it out there!)
Now we can switch out the winter home decor and bring in the bright colors and flowers of the spring season! We survived the switch to daylight saving time. It's currently not raining or snowing. Crocus are up and robins are back! All is good.
We've been making lots of fun new samples for the shop. Fabric is coming in daily. New patterns and books are on the shelves, and we usually have a fresh tray of goodies to share on the cutting table in the flannel room.  Come hang out with us ANY day, but especially Wednesdays and Fridays for Sit 'n Sews! You spend a wonderful day with friends, and with US. You get inspired, have help when necessary, and discover new ideas and new techniques. I just can't imagine a better way to spend a Wednesday or a Friday!! After mid-May I'll be in town a lot more regularly and will be offering a few fun (unadvertised) classes to our Sit 'n Sew friends! I'll show you some ideas when we are all together!
Something about a new season is energizing, especially when that season brings with it the promise of longer days and balmy weather! Channel that renewed energy and come let us help you pick out some beautiful things to make for your springtime home!
Here is a compilation of upcoming classes and events for you to consider.  I hope you can join us!!
Sew many of our customers have one or more of these little darlings ~

The next meeting for our fun little gang is  Saturday, April 27  from 10-5
We'll be making this cute, fast table runner! You can piece it in an hour or sew....and we should still have time to quilt and bind it! Bring your walking foot and 1/4" foot, or we have them here! If you already made this, I'll have other options and will picture them in later newsletters

Currently we have 1 Featherweight Machine for sale at the shop. It's in very good condition, runs like a whisper, and is $395.
To date we have had several classes on machine quilting with your home machine,
using 1/4" thick quilting templates. Tons of fun! Loads of information. We have our
next class scheduled for Saturday, May 11. When you register you will receive a free
pattern for a simple table runner. When you come to the class you will need to bring the
pieced runner, batting, backing and binding. In this class we will use 3 rulers from
previous classes (CGR Slim, Taj and Squiggy) as well as 1 new ruler, the HQ Half
Circle ruler. You'll receive 15% discount on all rulers and machine feet purchased for
or during the class. If you do not already have the first 3 rulers and do not wish to
purchase them, we can simplify the quilting you will do on your table runner. I have no
objection to sharing rulers with other students if you want to try them before purchase.
This class is to inspire you to improve your quilting skills and step out of your comfort
zone a bit with tons of help from a very skilled, very patient professional teacher.  If
there is time after your quilting, we'll teach you how to put a fully machine-done
binding on the table runner. It's gonna be FUN!!!

We are continuing our FREE Wednesday and Friday Sit 'n Sews. They are just the most supportive, creative energy-inducing, friendship growing, quilt making events you can imagine!!  For all the staff at Creations, it's like hosting a day of quilting with all our best friends in our home studio!! These events have taken on a life of their own and evolved to be sew much more that we first imagined!! My only request is that you respect the fact that these are not FREE CLASSES. My staff is always busy running the shop and waiting on customers. We are HAPPY to give you advice and a bit of help, but this is not the place for someone to come and learn how to use a rotary cutter, use their sewing machine, or interpret a complex pattern. If you bring a friend who needs lots of guidance, and you are going to provide it for her, that's awesome.  If you or your friend need lots of guidance and attention, we will be thrilled to help you with that.....but it will be in a private class setting. I hope you can understand that we are excited to share our sewing room with our friends, but we still need to be free to work with our walk-in customers.
PLEASE NOTE!! We are always happy to share rulers, mats, scissors, seam rippers, machine feet, machine cords, machine foot pedals with you, however, our supply of all of the above has dwindled badly!!  We know how easy it is to pack up at the end of Sit 'n Sew and forget that some of those items actually belong to our shop. Can you do us a favor and just look through your things to see if any of them can be returned to the shop? Thanks a million!!  Let the Good Times Roll!!

How about some lighter recipes for spring?
2 lg. boneless, skinless chicken breasts
2½ / 3-pound spaghetti squash, halved lengthwise and seeded
1¼ cups red enchilada sauce, divided
1 medium zucchini, diced
1 small onion, minced
1 cup shredded pepper Jack cheese
Position racks in upper and lower thirds of oven; preheat to 450*.   Place chicken in a medium saucepan, add water to cover and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to low and gently simmer 10 to 15 minutes.   Transfer chicken to a clean cutting board and shred with 2 forks. Transfer to a large bowl.   Meanwhile, place squash cut-side down in a microwave-safe dish and add 2 tablespoons water. Microwave, uncovered, on High until the flesh is tender, about 10 minutes. (Alternatively, place squash halves cut-side down on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake in a 400°F oven until the squash is tender, 40 to 50 minutes.)   Use a fork to scrape the squash from the shells into the large bowl. Place the shells on a broiler-safe pan. Stir 1 cup enchilada sauce, zucchini and minced onion into the squash and chicken. Divide the mixture between the shells; top with the remaining ¼ cup enchilada sauce and cheese.   Bake on the lower rack for 10 minutes. Move to the upper rack, turn the broiler to high and broil, watching carefully, until the cheese starts to brown, about 2 minutes. To serve, cut each shell in half.

4 (6-ounce) flounder fillets
1 T chopped fresh dill
1/2 cup reduced-fat sour cream
2 T capers, drained
4 lemon wedges
Preheat oven to 425°. Season fillets with salt and pepper. Place fish on a foil-lined baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Bake at 425° for 10 minutes; sprinkle evenly with dill. Bake an additional 2 minutes or until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork. While fish bakes, combine sour cream and capers in a small bowl. Place fish on a serving plate. Squeeze 1 lemon wedge over each serving. Serve with Caper Cream.

6 ounces uncooked pasta of your choice

1 medium shallot, thinly sliced

1 garlic clove, thinly sliced

3 ounces Brie cheese, rind removed and finely chopped

8 ounces shredded skinless, boneless rotisserie chicken breast (2 cups)

2 tsp cider vinegar

2 tsp extra-virgin olive oil

6 oz fresh baby spinach

1 large heirloom tomato, chopped

shaved Parmesan cheese

Cook pasta al dente. Drain pasta, reserving 1/4 cup cooking liquid. Place shallot and garlic in a small bowl. Pour 1/4 cup reserved pasta cooking liquid over shallot mixture; steep 5 minutes. Place pasta and cheese in a large bowl; toss to combine. Stir in chicken, vinegar and shallot mixture. Combine oil and spinach. Add spinach mixture to pasta mixture; toss to combine. Sprinkle with remaining tomato and shaved Parmesan to taste.
It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. ~Charles Dickens
I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a quilt shop. ~(paraphrased) R. Stout
