The Count and I just returned from a lovely week with dear friends on Dataw Island, South Carolina. I must say.....it was just about the most relaxing vacation we've ever had. No agenda. Just get up in the morning, have coffee on the deck watching the marsh, and then make loose plans for the day. I could get sew used to that!!
Ron and Tom did a lot of golfing, Martha and I did quilty stuff and history stuff. I love learning about the Antebellum history of the Low Country! Looking forward to visiting again next year!

The next meeting for our fun little gang will be Saturday, June 10. My plan is to do a cute little project that uses the Creative Grids Cat's Cradle tool that was used in the May workshop. I hope to have it completed soon and will post it in the next newsletter.

EMBROIDERY CLUB ~
Beginning Tuesday, May 2, Edlyn will be hosting Embroidery Club the first Tuesday evening every month. Through this summer and early fall, hours will be 4-8pm since it stays light well beyond that time. As the seasons change you can discuss among yourselves whether you want to adjust the day/time. Each meeting is $10 and everyone will work on a project. Part of the beauty of 'club'-type events is the networking and sharing that goes on. Everyone shares skills and ideas and creativity ramps up exponentially. In May the project will be an embroidered angel pillow ~ perfect for Mother's Day, birthday, or just for yourself! You will receive 15% off shopping during club hours. (You may bring ANY embroidery machine, but you must know how to use it....this is not a class, it's a fun gathering and sharing of techniques and information). Please let us know if you are coming sew we can be sure to have enough patterns!
While discussing embroidery.....Edlyn just completed this adorable embroidered quilt and Sue Nichols quilted it equally adorably! Edlyn is planning to offer this as an Embroidery Block A Month beginning sometime mid-summer. Would you be interested? We're still working out details, but know that will NOT be offered on a Saturday. At this time we're considering Thursdays from 2-5. We welcome feedback!

RAFFLE QUILT ~ Front and Back
We'll be starting our 2017-2018 Block-A-Month program the first part of June. The spectacular quilt is called Forest Floor and is done in batiks as shown. (We alsew have a beautiful assortment of like-colored reproduction fabrics for any who would prefer a more traditional fabric choice.) Blocks are $29.95/month and include our teaching hints and tips to make this easier for you to understand. We ask for a $29.95 deposit and must hold your credit card on file. We'll ship every month and the deposit will cover the price of month 12 at the end of this program. This amazing quilt finishes at 106" x 106". Be sure to stop by the shop and see it in person!! If you are interested in participating, please don't wait! We have a limited number of kits to cut and many are already spoken for!

I have a VERY special request from all of my customers. The 18 month old toddler girl of dear, dear family friends was recently diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma. She has been in picu at Dayton Children's Hospital for almost a month and her condition is very, very grave. First, I covet prayers for the child and her family. Her name is Ava Grace Gunn. She has parents, a big brother, grand parents and great grandparents, all who love her immensely. Second, I am donating a large Queen Size ~ 101" x 117" quilt, pictured below, to be raffled from now until July 4. At that time I'll contact the winner and make arrangements for the quilt to be delivered. If you'd care to purchase tickets they are $1 or 6 for $5. You can mail check to us and I'll personally fill out your ticket stubs and enter you in the drawing. Lets see if we can help this young family with the rapidly mounting medical and living expenses! RECIPES & CLOSING
CHEESY CHICKEN AND RICE
1 c. white rice
1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling
1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, quartered
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 onion, chopped
1/2 c. dry white wine
1 c. low-sodium chicken stock
1/4 c. heavy cream
2 c. frozen peas
1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley, plus more for garnish
1 1/2 c. freshly grated Parmesan, divided
Preheat oven to 450º. Prepare rice according to package directions, less 5 minutes. Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. In a medium mixing bowl, drizzle olive oil over chicken and season with salt and pepper. Cook chicken until golden all over, 6 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate and set aside. Add 1 tablespoon oil to skillet and heat over medium. Add garlic and onions and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add wine, chicken stock, heavy cream, salt and pepper; bring to a boil and simmer until slightly reduced, about 5 minutes. Add chicken (and juices from the plate), cooked rice, peas, parsley, and 1 cup Parmesan. Bake until heated through, about 15 minutes. Garnish with parsley and sprinkle with remaining Parmesan.
2-4 medium zucchini, washed, ends removed and sliced lengthwise into 1/2" slices
olive oil, salt, pepper, shaved Parmesan cheese
Brush both sides of zucchini slices lightly with olive oil. Salt and pepper to taste. Place on hot grill 3-4 minutes per side. Place on serving platter and sprinkle generously with shaved Parmesan.
