March 22, 2016
Hi Friends!
We had a simply WONDERFUL time at our Mystery Event last Sunday!  I was too busy to take pictures, but Jan took several and I'll share them here....

The last picture in the above group is of the finished Mystery.  We are taking orders for kits in your personal choice of fabrics/colors. Generous lap size (60" x 72"), pre-cut and to include binding is $84.95.  Pattern-only for lap size is $5.  Email or call the shop with orders. Thanks sew much!!  I'm sorry there are no pictures of the food.....I was busy and when I thought about it, all we had left were 4 very small pieces of blueberry lemon cake. Not one bit of!!  Recipes to follow.
We've just clearanced 175 quilting books and have them special-priced at $5 each!! It would be hard to find a better bargain  anywhere!!  Grab a few while the selection is great!! We've been clearancing them for awhile now, but still a great selection!!
                   "...I've Got A Notion..."
In this section I'll share a favorite tool, and to honor that tool's uniqueness and usefulness it will be discounted 15% until the next newsletter when another notion will be the star.  If you are not a walk-in customer, don't worry!  We have a code you can enter if you order on our website and you will still receive the 15% discount!
                                     This week's "...I've Got A Notion..."
Bohin Mechanical Pencils/Refills and Glue Pens/Refills                                                                               WEBSITE CODE ~ BOHIN
Do you feel frustrated when trying to make a fine mark on fabric?  Are your markers too thick?  Too temporary?  Hard to remove?  We love the Bohin mechanical chalk pencils! They are very fine. The chalk is similar to tailor's chalk and does not brush out accidentally.  The range of colors of chalk is great! ~ red, yellow, white, silver, green... Pencils have an eraser-tip, but we alsew like to rub the chalk away with a scrap of cotton quilt batt.  The glue pens are amazing!  Perfect for all the sophisticated Judy Neimeyer paper-piecing patterns, as well as general use in the quilting world. Give these a try while they're on sale!
Here is a compilation of upcoming classes and events for you to consider.  I hope you can join us!!

options for professional looking quilt binding! Think of the frame of your favorite want your binding to professionally frame and show-off your beautiful

EMBROIDERY CLUB ~ Several years ago  we had a monthly machine embroidery club we call JEF Club (Janome Embroidery Friends).  It was open to all brands of embroidery machine, as long as the club member knew how to use her machine.  I've been hearing requests that we bring this back, sew I'm putting it out to all of you for feedback. Fee would be $10/month and each month the club would work on a project.  It could be a block-a-month type project, or just small projects.....your decision. I'd like to know if there is interest in this, what day would work best for those who want to join, and what kind of projects you'd like to work on.  The fun thing about a 'club' format is the camaraderie that is formed, and the sharing from all the members. Everyone learns sew much more from a dedicated group than just one instructor alone. Edlyn would be the instructor, but everyone participates, shares and learns.  Opinions?

    2 eggs
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup sour cream
    1/2 cup olive oil
    1 tsp  vanilla extract
    1/4 tsp salt
    2 cups flour
    2 tsp baking powder
    1 lemon (zest and juice)
    1/2 Tbsp corn starch
    16 oz fresh blueberries
Powdered sugar to dust the top, optional
Lightly grease a 9x9 pan and line the bottom with a square of parchment paper (I made my cake in a 9x13 pan and baked it for a shorter time.  I then cut the cake like bars.) Beat eggs and sugar with mixer for 5 minutes. Add sour cream, oil, vanilla and salt and continue to beat. Whisk together flour with baking powder and gradually add to egg mixture, mixing all together on low or medium until all is incorporated. Add lemon zest and juice and continue to mix. Mix clean blueberries with corn starch and gently stir until corn starch is moist. Pour half the batter into baking pan. Top with half the blueberries. Add remaining batter, and top with remaining blueberries. Gently press blueberries into batter and smooth over. Bake @ 375* for 45-55 min. Let cake rest for about 15 minutes before removing from pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

                                                              **(I NEVER pre-cook lasagna noodles)

    1 lb. lasagna noodles

    3 tbsp. butter

    2 cloves garlic, minced

    3 tbsp.  flour

    3 c. milk

    2 c. grated Parmesan

    3 c. shredded rotisserie chicken

1 bag fresh spinach, de-stemmed and torn

16 oz fresh mushrooms (I used Baby Portobellas) cleaned and quartered

    1 large onion, chopped

    2 T dill weed

    1 pint ricotta

    1 pint cottage cheese

    1 egg

    4 c. shredded mozzarella

Peheat oven to 350º.  In large bowl mix ricotta, cottage cheese, 1 egg, 1 cup grated Parmesan and dill weed. Set aside.

In large skillet or Dutch oven, over medium heat, melt butter. Add garlic, mushrooms, and onion and cook until fragrant, 1 minute, then add flour and whisk until golden brown, 1 minute more. Add milk and bring to a simmer. Let thicken, 2 to 4 minutes. Add 1 cup Parmesan and stir until creamy, then add shredded chicken and spinach, and stir until combined.

To assemble, in large 9x13 baking dish sprayed with cooking spray spoon 2-3 spoonfulls of mushroom/chicken mixture in pan and spread evenly. Top with layer of uncooked lasagna noodles slightly overlapping each edge. Spread 1/3 of ricotta mixture, then 1/3 of mushroom/chicken mixture, then 1/3 of the shredded mozzarella. Repeat twice more. Cover with foil (spray inside of foil with cooking spray) and bake 45 minutes, or until bubbly. Uncover and continue to cook 10-15 minutes more until cheese is bubbly and golden. Allow to cool 10-15 minutes before cutting and serving.
